The Artists

“Atmo Zakes started her education as an artist with a 3year professional photography / visual arts program at Cegep du Vieux Montréal in 1970-73 and has continued educating herself ever since. Her first solo exhibition of watercolors and pencil drawings was in Trausse, France in 1995. She has presented her work since, in many other exhibitions for several Artist Associations in Montréal.”

  • She also had a solo exhibition at the International Museum of Naïve Art in Magog, Québec for four months in 2023. One of her paintings is now in the permanent collection there.

  • Two solo exhibitions in Germany in 2023; one in Schwetzingen and an ongoing one (2024-25) in Berlin, have given her some international exposure. She does commissioned work as well.

  • Atmo loves to paint with watercolors, dry pastel, acrylics and oil. Mixed media, including image transfers, oriental technique and collages are part of her experiments. The discovery of water soluble oil paints is now her preferred medium.

“Experimenting with new subjects, techniques and paints is what pleases me most and makes painting one of the great adventures of my life. To choose political (peace) and environmental (nature) subjects is part of my long-standing social conscience and makes me feel involved and present”.
