My initial response to an interesting subject is the light and mood associated with it. The inspiration for many of my paintings is taken from photographs I have taken on my travels abroad and near home. I always enjoyed art classes in high school but at university chose to pursue a career in physics. Now recently retired after 45 years teaching physics, I have time to enjoy painting and live drawing. I owe the renewal of my interest in art to Ross Paterson, my instructor for an oil painting work shop, while on sabbatical in Australia several years ago. He rekindled my desire to paint.
